Relocation of Lions from Grassland Bushman Lodge to Kgalgadi Transfrontier Park

5/22/2014

The Predator project at Grassland Bushman Lodge is a project where problem predators are captured by Mr. de Graaff and housed at the Lodge until they find suitable land where they can be released back into the wild. This project is funded by Mr. Willie de Graaff (owner of Grassland Bushman Lodge).

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) of Botswana and Grassland Bushman Lodge (GBL) have been working together since the start of this project and Mr. de Graaff has a very good relationship with them. The last couple of months there has been a lot of communication between GBL and DWNP… and the process was completed yesterday.

GBL has donated lions to DWNP which will be released into the Mabuasehube area in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park. This was a very exciting and emotional day at GBL, as Mr. de Graaff witnessed this first hand and could see his years of funding, passion and dedication towards wildlife being realized.

Please could you give me a short explanation as to why more lions were being brought in to Mabua. We have been there numerous times and thought that the young lions there were getting a bit too comfortable being around humans and the campsites. Then we saw these lions (by chance) in the holding pen and thought they were the 'problem' lions being moved out. It seems as if Mabua has enough lions for the game population? Tx Nicci
