THE ODDBALLS' MOKORO TRAIL:
The Oddballs’ Mokoro Trail has over the years provided countless guests with what must be the most authentic way to experience the Okavango Delta. After spending the first night at Oddballs’ Camp guests depart for a minimum of a two night camping trip in the Okavango Delta.
Oddballs is situated on the edge of Chief's Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp is accessible by light aircraft only. On arrival, you will be met at the airstrip and welcomed to the island. Accommodation is in dome tents with semi-detached private bathrooms, fully equipped, and set on elevated wooden decks shaded by canvas shelters. These tents are the same tents used by most mobile operators in Botswana. The en-suite bathrooms have outdoor bucket showers, basin and wc.
Activities are conducted by your own professional guide (a maximum of two guests per guide), a man of the swamp, born and bred in the area.
He has a traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe) in which he will take you to nearby islands, where you will walk to view game and the spectacular landscape that is the Okavango.
The first night is spent at Oddballs’ Camp.
Day Two
After breakfast the adventure begins Guests will head out together with their guide, with all camping equipment and food, on the Oddballs’ Mokoro Trail. After finding a suitable spot to camp, guests assist their guide in setting up the camp, building a fire and preparing food. The guide will take the guests on Walking Safaris - truly the only way to go out 'on safari', and mokoro excursions, through the myriad crystal clear waterways that make up the Okavango. Game and birdlife are excellent.
Subsequent Days
Wake up to the beautiful sights and sounds of the Okavango; enjoy a morning walk in the Moremi Game Reserve, returning after three hours or so for a hearty breakfast. During the heat of the day guests can relax, and then after lunch another excursion by mokoro or walking, according to their preference. Dining by the light of hurricane lamps around the camp fire under the canopy of the African Sky completes your day. If you are particularly energetic you can go out on a longer walking safari taking a picnic breakfast or lunch with you.
Last Day
After another early morning safari, guests will return to Oddballs to relax or enjoy an afternoon activity. You may also be interested in visiting the nearby village. Your Guide will be proud to show you his home and introduce you to his family, a unique experience, especially if this is your first visit to Africa.
Day of Departure
Enjoy an early morning walking safari, after which breakfast is served. Depart Oddballs via light aircraft to your next destination.
The end of a most memorable trip.
