Introduction:

The Upper Zambezi Basin is a unique and captivating region within Southern Africa and includes South Eastern Angola, North western Zimbabwe, Western Zambia, Namibia’s Caprivi Strip and Northern Botswana. 4 companies have co-operated to offer a unique collection of camps and  lodges providing a combination of experiences previously out of reach of even the most devoted safari enthusiasts.

The 5 Rivers Safari includes most of the best  known safari areas contained within the Kavango-Upper Zambezi Transfrontier Super-Park and offers unforgettable experiences in the game rich areas existing within this Park.

The Camps and Lodges and the areas in which they operate are:

The Camps and Lodges are operated by 4 independent companies ensuring that each camp retains its own individuality and charm, whilst offering guests something unique and different at each location. The largest camp - Xakanaxa sleeps 24 guests, while the smallest, Susuwe Island Lodge, sleeps 12. All accommodation is en-suite with electricity (in camps not always in the room); hot and cold water and all amenities necessary for a very comfortable stay.

All properties have a central lounge, dining and bar area. With the exception of Songwe Village, every camp or lodge boasts a swimming pool, with Susuwe Island Lodge offering a plunge pool on the deck of every suite. Some of the area’s in which the camps operate are huge - the two best examples are the Kwando Concession which alone is 252 000 ha and that is not taking into account the adjoining area of Susuwe Island Lodge, The Kwara Concession in the Northern Okavango Delta is 175 000 ha… these are large unspoilt wilderness areas.

The Camps and Lodges combined offer a spectacular array of activities at no additional charge:

Guided tour of the Victoria Falls, cultural village tours at several locations, cruise on the Zambezi River, historical (stone age man) museum, game cruises on Chobe River, bird watching at all locations, Afro botanical walks, fishing, day and night drives in several different eco systems, bush walks,  boat based game watching on various river systems, mokoro trips, Bushman walks and excellent hospitality.

General information on the areas:

Most people have a misguided view of the Green Season (December to end March) or “Rainy Season” . A lesser-known fact is that our 5 -Rivers area has just about half the amount of rainfall during the same period as  the Greater Kruger National Park. The rainfall in our area is typically in the form of quick thunderstorms, which usually last about an hour or so.  The other misconception is that game or wildlife viewing is at its lowest… and difficult to see – we have resolved this dilemma by offering all game drives with guides and trackers at many of the camps, or by ensuring the camps are located in prime viewing areas. The summer months offer the best value time to visit this region as the vegetation is a sea of green, wild flowers everywhere and all mammals and birds have young.. the bush is alive … Africa at its most productive best.

The Offer:

  • Valid for 1 December 2007 until 31 March 2008
  • Nett price is per person per night sharing. This includes accommodation, meals, scheduled game activities, local brand drinks, laundry and park fees where applicable.
